Oxbridge admissions – A parent’s guide

Right now most students are heavily embroiled in revision for their exams, preparing for what could determine their future and certainly their University choices.

But how do you prepare your child for the next big step: Oxbridge admissions?

At Varsity Education we offer two-week courses for high-achieving students aged 15-18 that will give them a head start when applying for any of the top universities in the UK, be it Oxford, Cambridge, or any of the Russell Group universities.

When should I be planning for my child’s future?

There’s no time like the present! By identifying the needs of yourself and your child, we will tailor our course to maximise their potential.

Last year there were over 17,200 applications for only 3,200 places at Oxford alone. We will provide your child with the necessary skills to make the acceptance list.

How do you achieve this?

We’ve all heard the myths and the legends regarding the Cambridge and Oxford admissions and application process.

Our summer colleges in Oxford and Cambridge demystify the process through seminars, workshops and one-to-one tutoring geared to the individual requirements of the student.

Who runs our academic programmes and who are the teachers?

Varsity Education was founded by Director and Oxbridge graduate James Gold, to equip students with the skills needed to get through the admissions process.

The admissions programmes themselves are run by Oxbridge graduates who know first-hand what applicants will face. Academic staff members and tutors are also on hand to offer advice, support, guidance and inspiration.

My child wants to study at Oxbridge but we don’t know where to start!

Never fear, we all know how daunting and intimidating it can be. Quite often, students don’t know which course or college is right for them.

We work with each student individually to identify their academic aspirations and work out which college suits their needs and their personality the best.

My child isn’t confident enough to pass an interview.

Confidence doesn’t come naturally to everyone, but there are some techniques that can help even the shyest of students to stop hiding their light under a bushel and shine.

Our summer programmes teach interview techniques that will bring your child ‘out-of-their-shell’ in a safe, relaxed, inspiring environment so that they are bound to feel confident going to that all important interview.

We’ve never even been to Oxford or Cambridge, will we fit in?

To anyone who hasn’t been, these elite universities can seem like intimidating places – but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Both universities are very welcoming and inclusive, and the best way to see this is for students to experience campus life for themselves.

Our two-week courses are based in the heart of Oxford or Cambridge. Students stay in the undergraduate accommodation and experience a community of students from various backgrounds and disciplines.

I want the best for my child but I’m worried can’t afford it.

At Varsity Education we believe that the best students should have the same opportunities to excel regardless of background or income.

Which is why we offer a number of scholarships that cover the course fee for those who really need a helping hand. Find out now if your child qualifies for a scholarship.
