1. Prepare for your university application
Applying to Oxbridge means tackling a highly competitive admissions process with little, if any, expert guidance on personal statement writing, academic interviews or university entrance exams. At Varsity, we thoroughly prepare you for every step of your university application and help you to excel in the admissions processes of Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities. Workshops on interview techniques, aptitude test preparation and Personal Statements will not only teach new skills, but also build your confidence as you approach the UCAS application. In addition, you’ll get the chance to take a full mock interview and mock aptitude test, complete with constructive feedback from our academic team, and gain first-hand advice from Oxbridge undergraduates who have already been through the process.
“I now have a better understanding of UK universities, especially Oxbridge, and that has soothed some of my worries going forward with the application process; interviews in particular. I feel much more confident going forward.”
Ayesha, Cambridge Summer College alumni, 2017
2. An insight into Oxbridge life
There’s only so much you can learn online and Open Days (if you are able to attend), while valuable, offer a limited insight into the day-to-day experience of student life. For many students, university can be a leap into the dark.
Varsity Education was founded to provide a two-week, academic residential programme that allows prospective students to immerse themselves in an authentic undergraduate experience – attending lectures and tutorials, living in undergraduate accommodation, and exploring the traditional university towns of Oxford and Cambridge.
3. Advice & guidance from Oxbridge academics
Unlike other programmes, our entire staff consists of Oxbridge academics. By studying a version of the first-year syllabus in the heart of an Oxbridge college, you are given the opportunity to experience your subject in a university learning environment under a world-leading academic. Questions and interactivity are encouraged during your classes and you can ask your tutors anything about your subject and application and receive insider guidance to help you reach your potential.
“The Varsity programme helped me reconfirm that Law was definitely the course for me, and I was never bored. I learnt about the basics of many core topics, which allowed me to pinpoint my specific interests in the subject.”
Zahra, Oxford Summer College alumni, 2017
4. A wonderful learning & social experience
You’ll be taught through a series of morning seminars and 1:1 and 2:1 tutorials, replicating the unique teaching style at Oxford and Cambridge. This small group teaching approach will broaden your subject knowledge, helping you to demonstrate academic curiosity “beyond the curriculum” through each stage of your application.
We find that our programmes often really help students to feel more relaxed about going to university. After all, moving to a new city to study, especially in a foreign country, can be daunting. Not to mention living apart from your family, for quite possibly the first time! On a Varsity programme, you’ll experience living in a college at Oxford or Cambridge with like-minded students from across the world, sharing ideas and making friendships that can last a lifetime.
“My history classes were my favourite, but also the friends I made all across the world. I came to realise that, despite our cultural differences, we are all open-minded young people with a love for learning and similar interests and passions. I also really enjoyed our trips to Cambridge and Warwick.”
Emelie, Oxford Summer College alumni, 2017
“My morning classes were extremely captivating. Everything that we learnt in my Law lessons always led to discussions in my 1:1 tutorials. It helped cement understanding of the course material and identify strengths and areas for further development.”
Mohadeseh, Oxford Summer College alumni, 2017
5. Gain more confidence about progressing to Higher Education
Overall, our programmes will leave you feeling much more confident in your Higher Education choices and better prepared to succeed in the applications processes of Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities.
But university isn’t just about academic development. It’s also the opportunity to forge new friendships, explore different places and grow as an individual. You’ll sample real student life, while having the 24/7 security of our staff and university porters taking care of you.
Of the students who attended our 2017 summer programmes, 99% rated the teaching as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ and 97% said they would recommend a Varsity programme.
